Gord Hotchkiss of Search Engine Land had an exclusive interview with Microsoft Live Search's Justin Osmer recently. The interview covers a wide range of issuesm, such as Microsoft's rebranding strategy, the findings of Microsoft's eye tracking study and the personalization of search results.
There are some interesting insights into Live's new design and the reason behind them. The new features that he talks about are: the feature of related searches, Smart Scroll in image search and the whole basket of tools introduced in different services.
Justin was seriously all praises for Google. He said that:
Google did a great job out of the gate and has continued to refine their offering. Thankfully, they've innovated and have brought search up to the forefront. Search is now the place where most people start their online experience. They deserve a lot of credit for developing those things in their early days.
Regarding the rebranding to Live Search, he said that:
MSN continues to be a very strong brand and a place where people love to go get content, read content, review content and get immersed in that content. Windows Live is more about you cherry picking what's important to you, pulling that down and having that in one spot. And then the services that underlie Windows Live will then power the experiences on these other properties.
