Google is starting to integrate news results into standard web search results which will eventually mean the end of OneBox results. Under the OneBox scheme of search result display, news links were placed at the top of general search results in a neat cluster.

However, under the new method news results will be blended into the general search results. According to a post at Search Engine Land, Marissa Mayer, Google vice president, search products & user experience, has said that:

"This allows us to rank news according to relevance in search results rather than at top of the page,"

She also explained that news will now be ranked according to deeper relevancy than just keyword triggers. News links to different sources will be clustered together and thumbnail images will be displayed next to the links.

Search Engine Journal reports that Yahoo! did away with the news shortcuts months back.
