Google Blogoscoped has carried out a major story on 'The Basics of Search Engine Optimization.' It says there are three vital steps to rank your site well in search engines.

The first and foremost thing for a web master is to create good content for the site. The post notes, "There’s a huge variety of search queries that may later on lead to your site. You better give up early on trying to optimize your content for each of those search terms. A more realistic strategy is to have lots of content on your site."

The second important factor for SEO is content accessibility. For which, the web pages should be designed properly with limited set of links on a particular pages. So that browsers can return to homepage frequently.

The third step is spreading the content in the web. This is more or less similar to the second step but at a different level.
