American Airlines Sues Google Over Keyword Ads reports Eric Goldman.

"American Airlines is an extremely well-known trademark owner with a big portfolio of trademarks. Further, American Airlines apparently decided it was worth going to war over this issue–and is prepared to pay the big bucks to litigate this case accordingly. If this lawsuit runs its course, I expect this to be a hard-fought and expensive lawsuit.”

In an attched PDF American Airlines mentions the keywords:

  • American Airlines
  • American Connection
  • AA.com
  • American Airlines Deal
  • Free AA Travel Offers
  • americanairlines.com
  • AmericanAirlines
  • American Airline
  • AmericanAirlines Com
  • www.americanairlines.com
  • American Air Lines, etc.

Eric Goldman feels, "We'll have to wait-and-see how this lawsuit plays out, but my working theory is that this was not a good lawsuit for American Airlines to bring."

In this regard, American Airlines has issued a press release where the airlines company cites the reason for litigation as, "The dispute is centered on Google's process of allowing other companies to purchase the right to use American Airlines trademarks for Internet search."

Not the first time Google has been sued some previous incidents include Google Sued, Faces Copyright Wrath From T-Series and Viacom Sues Google, Seeks $1 Billion In Damages, to name a few.
