Ask Launches GPS Powered Mobile Application

Reuters and WSJ informs IAC will launch Ask Mobile GPS on Sprint Nextel Corp. The application is a GPS-powered mobile application through which users can find local information like products, services, businesses, people etc. Ask Mobile GPS is a combination of Citysearch, Ticketmaster, Evite and Ask.com, for users on the go. Upcoming months will also see features like dating portal Match.com and RealEstate.com

Costing $9.99 per month, the service is available on seven Sprint models. A few months after Ask Mobile GPS takes off, the service will expand to other U.S. carriers.

Ask Chief Executive Jim Lanzone said, "The Web has evolved to being an essential daily tool in people's lives and that doesn't stop when you leave the house, Up to 30 to 40 percent of what is done on the Web could move to mobile. At the end of the day, everyone needs to go mobile. But being early in the game can help lock people in for the long term."

After the announcement, IAC closed 12 cents higher at $34.85 Nasdaq on Friday. IAC owns more than 60 Internet companies.

    I would definitly like to try the new Ask.com mobile GSP app. Unfortunately, though, it doesn't appear that my cell phone supports it, so I'll have to wait for now. Also, I'm not sure of the price; $9.99 per month seems a little steep for something I might use a few times a month; but that's just me, perhaps if I lived in a larger city it would be more useful?
