A recent article by Bill Slawski says that Wikipedia should undergo changes regarding it's page for Search Engine Optimization. The write up has been posted in his SEO by the SEA blog. The write up emphasize on the fact that Wikipedia should  improve the page which is rather simplistic and non-optimally informed.

Here is some information from Bill’s post:

Statements like this one really need to be changed:

Search engine operators became interested in the SEO community soon after the first search engine was launched. In some early search engines, such as Infoseek, ranking #1 was as easy as grabbing the source code of the top ranked page, placing it on your site, and submitting a URL to instantly index and rank that page.

    Hi Cathy,

I think that you may have misunderstood my post regarding the wikipedia. I didn't write about the wikipedia changing its search results, but instead about changing what the wikipedia includes in its article on Search Engine Optimization.

The wikipedia does very well within search engines, and they don't need any suggestions from me or likely anyone else on that front. But the article that they have on the subject (SEO) could stand to be improved, and I was hoping to inspire some other folks to help me make it better with my blog post. That would include you if you felt inspired, and had something to add to the wikipedia page on SEO.

    Thanks.

    Hi Bill,

I agree that the blog which was posted had a minor mistake but the effect was completely unintended. The post has been changed accordingly.

    Thanks
    Cathy

    Hi Cathy.

That was very kind of you. I've made a number of changes to the wikipedia article, and have seen a couple of other people making some positive changes too.

I'm hoping that our changes don't get rolled back to the time before we started updating the page. I appreciate the mention on your blog and your courteous response to my comment.

    Thank you very much.
