Recently, Matt Cutts from Google came up with some interesting Whitehat SEO tips on his WordCamp 2007 conference in San Francisco. He talked about different issues on the occasion like:

  • Don’t post your blog at root page of domain
  • Name your directory as “blog“, instead of “wordpress”
  • For better results use different categories that are also good keywords
  • Always make sure one important fact exists in your site which is crawlable by Google
  • The post creation dates should be easy to find
  • Try to check your blog on a cell phone/iPhone
  • Your blog must have the capability to do standard pings

Matt Cutts also talked about the mistakes that users generally make in a Wordpress blog. These mistakes should be avoided at any cost for better result. Avoid doing mistakes like:

  • Change the default permalink (domain.com/?p=111). Matt pointed out that he personally uses /%postname%/
  • Never use sponsored theme as they can lose all your trust in different search engines.
  • Most importantly, if your blog is hosted at free Wordpress site, never use it as a platform for PayPerPost as it does go with the rules of Wordpress’ TOS.
