In April last year, Yahoo! had taken the Site Explorer out of BETA and released it as a Yahoo! standalone Webmaster tools.

Last week we had informed our readers about how Yahoo! Inc. was planning for job cuts to streamline consumer-facing and ad-focused business units.

However, according to Business Standards, Yahoo! India on the contrary is planning to hire about 400 new employees for the year 2008. These recruitments are centered around the Yahoo! Center of Excellence in Bangalore, that is responsible for emerging Asian markets such as India, Singapore, South East Asia, Eastern Europe and Latin America.

Yahoo! Buzz Finally Open for All!

So far the stark competitor to Digg, Yahoo! Buzz that was launched in February this year was available only to a handful of invited publishers who were able to post news to Buzz. This was seen as a completely biased move, as those stories that did make the Yahoo! home page saw incredible volumes to traffic to that particular website.

However, now via Yodel Anecdotal, Yahoo! has announced that Yahoo! Buzz has now been made available to every user publisher on the Internet.

Pandia reports that, Yahoo! has dropped the Boolean support, that assists in creating complex queries in search engines.

According to Pandia, “Now the NOT operator is gone in Yahoo!, and searchers will have to stick to the 'search engine math' operator to achieve the same effect. Put a minus-sign directly in front of a term that you want excluded from search result (meaning that Yahoo! will exclude pages that has that term in their text).â€

According to Kara, “According to several sources within the company, besides more efforts to streamline Yahoo (YHOO) in both arenas, Aikido and Judo are more specifically looking at what cuts the company can make to meet aggressive financial goals it promised when trying to rebuff a now-defunct takeover bid by Microsoft (MSFT).â€

Yahoo! To Provide Users With Option of opting Out Of Custom Advertisements!

Yahoo! has announced that, it will now offer users the option of opting out of customized advertising on Yahoo.com. CNNMoney reported that, Yahoo! made this announcement in lieu of a congressional hearing that looked into the privacy problems that users face on websites, which provide Internet advertising to users while they surf the web. This new option for users will be available by the end of August.

Now according to Yahoo! News, Google and Yahoo! have finally lifted the curtain and have revealed substantial information about some aspects of the non-exclusive search partnership. The disclosure comes in the wake of a filing, that was submitted to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, that includes some details about the governing of the partnership. However, relevant details such as financial terms and revenue split have not been disclosed yet.

In the spirit of 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, Yahoo! has announced that, it is in the process of rolling out special shortcuts in Yahoo! Search that would be related specifically to information and news coverage of the 2008 Summer Olympics.

These shortcuts would be implemented in synchronization with the 'Torch Lighting' ceremony on August 8th. According to Yahoo!, "There will be a ton of Olympics-related information out there, such as breaking news, results and medal counts. The shortcut will help you get a real-time snapshot of what's happening in Beijing each day in one search."

Yahoo! Weather Report. Yahoo! to Roll Out August 2008 Search Index Update!

Yahoo! has announced that it would be rolling out its 'Weather Update', that would include changes in the crawling, indexing and ranking algorithms. The expected update will continue for a couple of days, but Yahoo! expects to finish it soon.

As usual, we are expecting numerous uncalled for ranking changes and page shuffling in the index, but Yahoo! Hopes to finish the update as soon as possible.
