shakefpeare.pngGoogle Research Scientist, T. V. Raman has a post on an improved Google Book Search where you can read text versions of everything from Romeo & Juliet to Kurt Cobain biographies. Now there is no excuse for not reading.

Google Book Search, in T.V. Raman's words, opens up “thousands of books to people who use adaptive technologies such as speech output, screen readers, and Braille displays.” It provides access to public domain works. The content can be used for anything you choose, be it commercial or non-commercial.

Sometimes, characters that are no longer used in contemporary English, but was in Shakespeare's i.e 'Early Middle English' may not be clear, as Phillip Lenssen points out. To combat this, one can use reCAPTCHA a program which "improves the process of digitizing books by sending words that cannot be read by computers to the Web in the form of CAPTCHAs for humans to decipher. More specifically, each word that cannot be read correctly by OCR is placed on an image and used as a CAPTCHA. This is possible because most OCR programs alert you when a word cannot be read correctly. "

Google Book Search is a part of services available from Google Accessible Search “which helps promote results that are more accessible to visually impaired users".Here's a list of Accessible Services From Google.
