Google Finally Providing Online Diagnostics of Malware Detection for Site Owners & Webmasters!
May 26th, 2008 | 2,512 Views RSS Feed
Earlier this month, Google had announced, the launch of 'Safe Browsing Diagnostic', an online tool that was meant to provide information about Google's automatic detections and investigations of the suspicious websites. This service is now fully functional and is showing near accurate data according to Google.
All you have to do is to add “google.com/safebrowsing/diagnostic?site=" before any domain name and you'll be presented with detailed results about the malware detection on the particular website. You can also check out the more simplified version at

The information from the malware detection report would contain:
- The current listing of the website.
- Google's result after the malware detections procedure was completed on the website.
- Website's contribution if any, towards the distribution of Malware.
- Whether the website has hosted malware in the last 90 days.
However, the unbiased nature of this malware detection tool can be judged simply by the fact, that when I checked google.com, it turned out that it has its own share of problems. This is what I found in the report generated for google.com:
“Of the 384614 pages we tested on the site over the past 90 days, 4 page(s) resulted in malicious software being downloaded and installed without user consent. The last time Google visited this site was on 05/25/2008, and the last time suspicious content was found on this site was on 03/13/2008.
Malicious software includes 4 scripting exploit(s), 4 trojan(s). Successful infection resulted in an average of 10 new processes on the target machine.
Malicious software is hosted on 4 domain(s), including 58.65.239.0, truemaybe.com, abc-powers.com.
5 domain(s) appear to be functioning as intermediaries for distributing malware to visitors of this site, including xtraff.biz, x-traffic.ws, smartvideochannel.com.â€

However, it shouldn't be a surprise that google.com was detected with a problem, as it has over 12 million pages indexed in Google. Therefore it becomes almost impossible to prevent such an anomaly. Blogspot.com, that is owned by Google, has also been found heavily infected with malware.
