Google has found a new Chief Information Officer (CIO) in the form of Benjamin Fried. According to a report from news.com, Benjamin Fried originally a programmer at Morgan Stanley rose to the position of a managing director, responsible for Morgan Stanley's Application Infrastructure group. As per Google's spokesperson Matt Furman, Fried will be taking over the position of CIO at Google in May 2008. The CIO position has been vacant since Douglas Merrill (former CIO) left Google this month.
An official Morgan Stanley memo suggests that Fried had relations with Google in 2004, when he worked on Google's initial public offering. Although Benjamin Fried's new job is a prestigious one, still it is a highly complicated job as well. He will be looking after Google's entire computing infrastructure, that is considered to be Google's nervous system. At present, Google has numerous servers located in 36 data centers across the globe. Google also believes in creating and maintaining its technology all by itself.
With the experience of developing Morgan Stanley's first web site, workstation software and the company's intranet, he is considered to be the most efficient candidate for this job.
