Google Google gets to add another feather in its cap after being rated as the numero uno brand in the UK, reports BBC. The Internet giant got the first rank amongst the top 500 brands in the UK, in a yearly survey conducted by the research firm Superbrands. The results are based on the views of 1,500 professionals.

Prior to Google, who now darns the crown, it was the BBC which held the top spot as the number one brand. Surprisingly, Google is the only company in the top 50 slot which has been formed after the year 1990.

The Redmond giant, Microsoft holds the second rank, #3 is BP, while the yesteryear's champion BBC has been pushed down to the 4th position.

"The top ten positions are dominated by companies who are either British stalwarts such as BA and BP – or like GlaxoSmithKline – can trace their origins to the UK," said Stephen Cheliotis, chairman, the Superbrands Council.

Most of those featuring at the top are quite old; from 50 to 90 years. The list of top brands reflects the brands that have established the best reputations in their fields and make the most impact on the business sector in the UK.

The survey in addition to getting inputs from 1,500 professionals, also has inputs from a "council of senior business leaders" as Superbrands terms it.
