The domain blogsearch.google.cn is not a new thing. This domain created by Google was made available for quite some time now. But, the domain was useless as it was void of displaying any service. But, some times back it has been changed from the old useless domain to a working homepage. This means that Google China has got a new element to be proud of, in the form of a blog search engine among its array of sites.

Just like other Google offerings in China, this particular blog search service is self-censored. This means that for some searches, the bottom of the page in italics disclaims that some search results are not shown in compliance with local laws, regulations and policies. Even, when an user enters certain queries, suppose say human rights or tiananmen, the result instead of properly displaying all the search results, shows a place-holder message only.

It is not a easy task to have control over blog information. And that's the reason why, even being partially self-censored, Google’s blog search engine still displays relevant sensitive information. For example, if one search for Fenghuang town where a bridge collapsed recently, shows a snippet from Shanghaiist.com:

“Firsthand account of assault of reporters covering the collapse of …

We told you about some Chinese journalists probing the Fenghuang (凤凰) bridge collapse getting harassed and beaten by local thugs, and EastSouthWestNorth has followed up with a translation of a fascinating first-hand account of the …”

This is very shocking, because the Chinese government tried a lot to suppress this news. It is still not proved, whether the users from China will be able to click through to the full blog post or not. As far as the headlines and snippets are concerned, they alone convey parts of the information.
