Google News, New Language - New Complications
March 8th, 2006 | 400 Views RSS Feed
Three weeks ago, Google officially launched its Israel branch. Then, it has been announced that it would just take eighteen months for Google to translate their services into Hebrew. It was also stated that there is no need to open an R&D center. Now it seems as if both predictions were wrong.
Google's news in Hebrew carried news from over one hundred new sources including the major sites like Haaretz, Ynet (Yedioth Ahronoth), NRG (Maariv) and some other big sites such as vgames.co.il and sharks.co.il.
Interestingly, every time whenever Google launches something controversies arise. This time, this launch has been distracting many sites. Sounds ridiculous, but it happened. According to some speculations some sites are planning to sue Google for copyright violation. Other sites predicted that this launch would die sooner or later, therefore no need to react yet.
To avoid such controversies, prior to the launch, Google announced that they will remove all the publishers who wouldn't participate in any of their future services.
