It is being reported that Google won't be monetizing domains which are less then five days old. It is planning to ban newly registered domain names from participating in Google for Domain Names program. This new policy can severely hamper the practice of domain tasting and can even stop all domain tasting.
Domain tasting, is the practice of registrants using the five-day grace period at the beginning of a domain registration to test the marketability of a domain name. With the result that, these temporary websites can literally generate millions of dollars as income per week for Google. This practise came to light after a partner disclosed it in a court hearing. Google is said to soon implement the new policy and that will surely have a huge impact on the industry.
A good thing with this move is that the advertisements will now spread among fewer domain and so those who actually own real full domains will be benefited. Though this move from Google can even encourage Yahoo to do the same. But if it doesn't then, surely all domain tasters will go knocking on Yahoo's door.
