Handling Noindex Meta Tags
September 1st, 2006 | 2,540 Views RSS Feed
Matt Cutts has recently surveyed on how different search engines deal with the noindex meta tags. He conducted a search recently (congoo) and found that they have a noindex meta tag. Matt Cutts reports that while Google and Ask do not show the page in any way, MSN and Yahoo! show a url reference and Cached link but have no snippet. Cached link doesn't return anything on MSN and Yahoo! returns the cached page. Matt writes, "Personally, I’d prefer it if every search engine treated the noindex meta tag by not showing a page in the search results at all."
