gatineau.jpgGatineau, the latest from Microsoft which is to directly compete with Google Analytics is garnering a lot of praise even before it has been released on beta.

LiveSide, Microsoft's official news blog writes, "

Gatineau will allow users, once they have set up a profile and added a tracking script to their blog or website, to:

  • View reports
  • Manage goals
  • Manage campaigns

Of course it's quite similar to Google's Analytics product (which has been recently revamped, to mixed reviews), but apparently Gatineau will be able to leverage Live ID information (without using any PII - personally idenitifiable information) to offer demographic information.

First to release pictures of Gatineau was Dave Naylor,

"Gatineau

Demographic analysis including age and gender

According to Dave Naylor, Gatineau is a better option because, "Microsoft is going to give you reports and visualisations that you haven’t seen before and data about you visitors like age and gender, seriously you just can’t get that data in any other service. I’m not saying Bail on Google Analytics run them both side by side then choose."

Isn't that enough to cause excitement? One wonders, what Yahoo! will come up with next. Moreover, some time back, Google Analytics received a lot of flak.

Thats a good news , would be great to have an analytics tool from Microsoft. Will it be free to use?
I have been using GoStats.com , they have been good and provide a comprehensive report on visitor stats.
Trying Microsoft would be worth though.
