February 12th, 2008 | 2,065 Views RSS Feed
After a failed Yahoo! acquisition attempt, Microsoft has announced an acquisition deal with Danger Inc, a Mobile Software as a Service Company. With the acquisition of Danger, Microsoft will benefit from the company’s nearly 10 years of expertise with mobile consumers. And with this move Microsoft can certainly place its technologies in the hands of an expanding mobile consumer audience.
Danger is a Palo Alto, California based company that builds Web browsing, messaging, social networking and other software for mobile devices. Its services help people to keep in touch, stay organised and keep informed, through real-time mobile messaging, social networking services, web browsing and personal information management applications. By combining these services with Microsoft’s connected entertainment and mobile technologies, now Microsoft will able to accelerate its work to create industry-leading entertainment and communication experiences for consumers.
However, no financial details of the deal where released.
Talking about the move Robbie Bach, president of the Entertainment and Devices Division at Microsoft said, “The addition of Danger serves as a perfect complement to our existing software and services, and also strengthens our dedication to improving mobile experiences centered on individuals and what they like.” While Danger chairman and CEO, Henry R. Nothhaft said that by combining Danger's uncompromised application software and powerful back-end service with Microsoft, they would be able to take the service and technology to a new level.
In addition, to the acquisition of Danger, Microsoft has also announced its partnership with Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications to make Windows Mobile phones. It has also announced the extended reach of Windows Live and MSN Direct services around the world. Among the other announcements that where made on Monday, Microsoft said Windows Mobile users can now download a test version of MSN Direct.
