Yahoo! recently updated their guidelines for YSM and added certain categories of advertisements as questionable in their guidelines. These guidelines will help Yahoo! avoid such kind of advertisements and give the user a friendlier and safer online experience.
The categories that have been added in the YSM guidelines are:
1.Essay Writing: Bad news for all you students out there. No more can we go on yahoo, search for our test papers and copy them down. All advertisements that promote essay, theses and dissertation writing services have been banned from all yahoo websites and sister concerns. We know that's cruel, but no one ever said that life would be easy.
2.Fake ID and Fake Education Certificates: No more can people (especially teenagers) will enter night clubs with fake Ids or apply for a job with fake education documents. All the advertisements promoting sale of these kind of documents, have been prohibited from Yahoo.
3.Firearms & Ammunitions: Next time someone wants to shoot a 9mm in the middle of the road, he would be in for a disappointment. Yahoo has banned all advertisements promoting the sale of or selling firearms and ammunitions. Gun range is the best option then.
4.Cigarettes: Advertisements pertaining to sale or promotion of cigarettes and tobacco have been banned from Yahoo Inc. So no more would we be seeing Tom Cruise light his nemesis on fire with his Marlboro.
Yahoo! has also diverted it's attention towards web browsers. Certain web pages that trick a search engine to display objectionable or poor-quality search results are the focus of the damage control. Therefore, Yahoo! has established some new guidelines towards maintenance of page quality.
Some of the conditions set for preservation of page quality are:
1.Such web pages that automatically resize the browser window and change the default settings of the browser.
2.In case, any bulk marketing is being practiced on a web page with unsolicited spam mail intensions.
3.Page designed to artificially hike search rankings.
If these above mentioned guidelines are followed to the word, then we can expect higher success rates on the search results on Yahoo! and have a pleasant experience too.
