TechCrunch has informed that Microsoft has acquired TellMe. TechCrunch claims that they have multiple sources confirming the same. TellMe is a voice services and automated directory assistance (DA) provider. TellMe has been drawing huge profits overs the past years. Two years back they reportedly generated a revenue of a whooping amount which was more than $100 million.

Greg Sterling at Search Engine Journal gives his take on this acquisition. He says, “It would be strange because Microsoft already has its own considerable speech processing assets. But it would also be significant because TellMe powers DA for AT&T’s 411 and now offers a number of consumer facing mobile-local search products (1-800-555-Tell) and TellMe by Mobile. This would give Microsoft, which has a relationship with US mobile carrier Sprint and various mobile search options, a very powerful additional tool in the emerging mobile market.”

TechCrunch has posted an update:
TellMe is saying that they have not been acquired by Microsoft, adding only “conversations are happening across the board.” More on this as it develops. Acquisition discussions are clearly occuring.
