Threatening Blogs & Websites Under Scanner In India

In the wake of recent bomb blasts in Mumbai and to avoid threats to the national insecurity of India, the Indian government is planning to launch an advance screening system for blocking blogs and individual websites which can pose a threat to the security of the country. The system will be placed at bandwidth landing stations from where international bandwidth come in the country. Once the system is launched, international long distance players owning landing stations will be able to block a specific URL at sub-domain level on the directive of the department of telecommunications. Economic Times reports that a draft report giving details about technical measures of blocking a sites have been sent to security agencies, key ministries, three ILD players owning landing stations and major internet service providers by department of telecommunications.
